Membership
of Governing Council is available to all persons interested in cats and the
Cat Fancy. Members have access to many services and benefits.
Membership
classes available are:
- Member
(for residents of Victoria)
- Junior
(for residents of Victoria under 18 years of age)
- Associate
Member (for those residing outside Victoria)
Members
are entitled to:
a. Vote at General
meetings of Governing Council
b. Register
cats/kittens or litters
c. Register
prefixes
d. Obtain titles for
cats that have gained the appropriate qualifications
e. Serve on the
Committee
f. Receive Cat of
the Year Awards
Juniors
and Associate Members do not have voting rights, nor can they serve on the
Committee.
Juniors
cannot register undesexed adults cats or operate breeding prefixes, unless
in partnership with a Member
Associate
Members cannot register cats or prefixes; nor obtain titles and Cat of the
Year Awards unless in partnership with a Member
All
Members must abide by the Constitution, By-Laws and Code of Ethics of The
Governing Council of the Cat Fancy Australia and Victoria Inc. Copies of
these may be obtained from the secretary, or at the stationery table at
GCCFV shows.
A
Joining Fee is payable on initial application for membership or after
membership has expired. Annual membership fees are due by the 1st
January each year. Where a membership has not been renewed before 31st
December each year, membership expires.
For
members interested in a more active role, there are many affiliated clubs
available to join. Some are specialist breed clubs, but most are open to
all cat lovers. Clubs run cat shows and exhibition throughout the year
CODE OF ETHICS
As an
Associate Member of The Governing Council of the Cat Fancy Aust & Vic
Inc. I will:
- Comply
with legislation applying to the keeping and management of cats.
- Care
properly for all cats that I own or am responsible for, providing
adequate housing, food and veterinary care.
- Desex any
cat that I intend to keep but not use in a breeding programme
- Desex by 5
months of age any non-pedigreed cat that I own.
- Encourage
owners of domestic/pedigree cats to have them desexed by the age of 5
months and registered with their local council.
- Not sell
or dispose of cats or kittens to or through pet shops, market, or
animal shelters or allow any cat or kitten to be given as a prize or
donation of any kind.
- Conduct my
breeding practices in such a way as not to bring disrepute upon GCCF
- Not allow
a female to become pregnant before she is 9 months of age, without
veterinary approval.
- Not allow
a female to have more than 2 litters in a 12 month period without
veterinary approval.
- Not allow
a female to have more than 8 litters without veterinary approval of
fitness for further breeding.
- Not allow a
stud cat to be used with a queen that is not registered with a
recognized control body.
- Not
inter-breed two cats of 2 different recognized breeds without having
approved supplementary registered program.
- Have all
cats and kittens follow a recommended vaccination program.
- Have all
cats and kittens on effective control programs for internal and
external parasites.
- Not part
with possession of a kitten before it is 10 weeks old and has
commenced its recommended vaccination program.
- Provide
new owners with written information of their responsibilities for the
care and welfare of the cat or kitten, including desexing, parasite
control, diet, grooming and vaccination requirements.
- Provide
ongoing help and advice to new owners.
- Only sell
a cat or kitten if appears to be in good health.
- Refund the
purchase money and take the cat or kitten back if it is unacceptable
to a new owner within 7 days of purchase for health or other reasons
supported by a statement from a veterinarian.
- Refund the
purchase money if the cat or kitten dies or is euthanased within 6
months from a disease that is traced to my premises.
Members
failing by this Code of Ethics will incur disciplinary action under the
Constitution of GCCFV Inc.
